This game is amazing. It's a series now of course, but the first one I played was the first one on the Sega Master System.

Honestly my first impression of the game wasn't that good. The guards in the towns were obviously just Star Wars storm troopers. I was expecting it to bit a bit unoriginal and surfacey.

However, once I started to explore I really got interested in it. The dungeon areas are the best, really. They manage to pack a lot into a little. Although actually that was advertised as a 8 meg game (really megabits though)

The story cut scenes were nice, once the world opens up and you get your ship, the area to search becomes large and you can wander around.

I like the original and Phantasy Star 2 and 4 also. Phantasy Star 4 is probably the best 16 bit RPG ever, maybe actually better than Chrono Trigger. It's that good.

Phantasy Star 2 is also good, but it's difficult and grindy. But it is the more darker of the games in the series.

Phantasy Star 3 kind of doesn't count. It's not a terrible game but it doesn't have much to do with the other three.

Also Phantasy Star Online has not much to do with it either. I like those games somewhat but they aren't actually the same thing.
